Slingerland serial dating
I think its a Magnum, but im not sure. Any help is much appreciated. Oh, and I paid for it. Oh, forgot a pic. This is the kit with my blacrolite.
DSCF 1. Look to be what Slingerland call Time Machine or model T. It's a vintage. It's is a true Slingerland before Slingerland was sold from the family.
If you need more information on this nice kit I'll be sure to help. Glad to know I have a legitimate Slingerland on my hands here! By any chance do you know what wood these were constructed out of? That's a seriously good score. All the badge grommets have been badly tampered with so the serials are rendered unreliable for dating. This kit may have been de-wrapped and refinished. Im gonna check on the ply again momentarily.
Well you got a nice Sonor pedal with it,. The script "Slingerland" stamp was used from ''79, these are most likely 5-ply. It could be possible as well that a wrap was removed and then finished with a dark stain. Until I confirm the number of plys here is another thing I forgot to mention. There are Slingerland stamps inside the shells. Also eager to discuss the hardware later if anyone is game.
Thanks so much for your input! This forum is really cool! Glad I joined. So probably from 77ish based on the intersection of serial number and script stamp I think? Last edited: Jan 2, It is classic Slingerland 5-ply.
Take a look at the badge on the drum. The drum badge is one of the easiest ways to accurately date a Slingerland drum. The shape of the badge is a great identifier. From , Slingerland used metal badges with a more floral shape. In they switched to round badges in solid metal colors. From on the company began using the oval badge with a black background that you still see on Slingerlands today.
Date your Slingerland drum by identifying the veneer of the drum. This is a private label Slingerland badge for the Lipskin Special Model. I understand that Slingerland did this "Private Label" for drum stores.
This is the first one I have been able to get an image from. Imported drums in the 80's had this badge courtesy: John Atkinson. This web site is dedicated to the history of vintage drums. This is the earliest Slingerland badge and it is from the 20's Badge courtesy of Dave Brown of England.
This is the second private label badge I have found. Image Courtesy: Charles E. Mitchell, Jr. Black and Brass Chicago Oval Badge.
