Approved documents. You could use an installer registered with the relevant competent person scheme. A registered installer will be approved to carry out the work to comply with building regulations without involving local authority building control. When work is complete you will receive a certificate showing the work was done by a registered installer. More information about Competent Person Schemes can be found on the Gov.

Alternatively, you could use an unregistered installer or DIY, in which case approval can be sought from the relevant Building Control Body — either at your Local Authority or an Approved Inspector. They will check the replacement window s or door s for compliance and, if satisfied, issue a certificate of compliance.

Need help? Approved Document Part L - Download. All new builds are required to meet building regulations Part M. This is to achieve a minimum clear opening width of mm. To meet this requirement, you would need to order an external door frame width of at least mm overall including the frame.

Approved Document Part M - Download. The glass units in windows will have to be toughened if the lowest part of the window is mm from the floor.

All glass units for doors must be toughened as windows that are connected to doors side panels and flag windows. The shaded areas shown in the diagram below show critical locations where toughened safety glass will be required. This is a police approved option we offer on our external doors.
